"The Captivating Science of Lunar Exploration"

Join fellow Harvard alumni on Tuesday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of Natural Science for an evening featuring Dr. David A. Kring, Senior Staff Scientist, Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston (Ph.D. '89). Dr. Kring will explain why the Moon is the best and most accessible place to explore the origin and evolution of the entire Solar System, including the earliest evolutionary phase of our own planet, Earth.

David is an American meteorite researcher and co-discoverer of the crater from the Chicxulub meteorite impact, which may have killed the dinosaurs. A trained astrophysicist and geologist, he studies meteorites to determine how an interstellar disk of gas and dust around the early Sun condensed to form the planets. He studies meteorite impact crater events to determine their geological and biological consequences. Click HERE for David's biography.
A compelling case can be made that exploration of the Moon is the shortest and least expensive route to a fundamental change in our understanding of our origins. The capability being developed with NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) and Orion crew vehicle provides the nation with an outstanding opportunity to reinvigorate its space program beyond low-Earth orbit. A decade-long series of studies have identified the best landing sites and traverse routes to maximize scientific return in missions that could be conducted throughout the 2020's.
