Set in the historic setting of Harvard and its environs - a place that, coincidentally, is where the history of American poetry began, Elisa New’s Poetry in America reveals that the histories of American poetry and Harvard University run in parallel and also interlacing streams.
The list of poets who studied here – lived here – includes Anne Bradstreet, Edward Taylor, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Adrienne Rich, Robert Lowell, Wallace Stevens, T.S. Eliot, W.E.B Du Bois, and many, many others.
HarvardX, the HAA and the Harvard University Club of Houston are excited to offer HAA1x Poetry in America Discussion Group from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 17th at the amazingly beautiful 2727 Kirby home of Adam Newar (MBA '87). Our group leader is Leigh Frillici and you can view her biography at the end of the page.
The ticket price for the Reception and Discussion Group is $15 per person, FREE for all Harvard University Club of Houston Supporting level members {Platinum, Sponsor, Patron and Benefactor}. What is HarvardX
This learning program is designed to give us, as alumni, a taste of curated HarvardX content, including faculty conversations and we'll explore a wide range of topics, from neuroscience to poetry (on 4/17) and Einstein to ancient Greece and China and computer science, all with celebrated faculty! And, there is no cost for alumni to participate in HAA1x! Our time together at the Discussion Group will allow us to connect in person for discussion, conversation, questioning and collaborative learning. - like being back at Harvard!

There are two steps to the registration process. First, you should register at the link above for the April 17th reception / discussion group featuring HarvardX Poetry at the home of Adam Newar. The ticket price for the Discussion Group is $15 per person, FREE for all Harvard University Club of Houston Supporting level members {Platinum, Sponsor, Patron and Benefactor}, and includes the reception and admission to the HarvardX Poetry discussion group. If possible, please register by Monday, April 14th.

BIOGRAPHY
Leigh Frillici worked at KHOU 11 News as a general assignment reporter and a fill-in anchor for 5 years. She has received several Lone Star Emmy nominations for her work at KHOU and has also been recognized by the Texas Medical Association. She formerly co-anchored the 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. newscasts at the ABC Affiliate in Springfield, Massachusetts. She reported for WTNH, the ABC Affiliate, and WFSB, the CSB Affiliate, in Connecticut. Leigh was awarded the Connecticut Associated Press Award for Outstanding General News Report. She also received a New England Emmy nomination for her work. Her career in news production began in New York City as an associate producer with CBS and MSNBC. One of her most memorable assignments was working at the Olympics in Albertville, France with CBS News.
Leigh's interest in journalism began at the University of Pennsylvania, where she experienced her first taste of news at Penn's television station. As an undergraduate at Penn, she also had the opportunity to study with Lisa New.
Currently, Leigh is writing children's books and has just finished a film script.
Leigh is the wife of Harvard alum Tom Killian. She hosted Harvard's 375th Anniversary Fete and is excited to be a part of this poetry discussion featuring one of her favorite professors
