Harvard Track Team 2012

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Host Harvard Student Athletes, March 11-18, 2012

Dear Harvard Club members and alumni,

We are looking for volunteer hosts families to help us house about 50 students during Spring Break.   Every year the hosts have had wonderful things to say about the team, and the team members have had great experiences with the hosts, and in Houston.   If you are interested in volunteering, please see the message below from Margaret Klineberg, who is coordinating the hosting efforts.

Sincerely,

Hoang "Quan" Vu
Club President

The Harvard Track Team (both men and women) are coming to Houston during Spring Break for the 30th consecutive year.  The team trains at Rice University and will take part in at least 1 track meet during the stay.  I have obtained housing for team members for many years, and am searching again for homes for 50 student athletes.   For the past two years, several Harvard Club of Houston members graciously have offered to host students and I hope that more members of the Club will join  the wonderful hosts from past years.  We ask hosts to provide a (separate) bed for each team member, and request that hosts offer housing for at least 2 people.  The students are prepared to fend for themselves otherwise.  Accommodations range from luxurious to air mattresses on the floor.  Some hosts e out of town for most of the team's stay, while others treat the students as part of the family, and feed and entertain them.  It is up to each host how involved to become.  We always look for homes as close to Rice as possible, however, the team brings vans to transport people who are not within running distance of the Rice Campus, so we have many hosts in the River Oaks area, West University and other near town locations.  I provide the hosts and team members with packets containing lists of the student/host pairings, maps of where everyone is staying, lists of (cheap) area restaurants and notices of parties, etc.  Every year the hosts have wonderful things to say about the team, and the team members have had great experiences with the hosts and in Houston.

The dates of the trip are:

Arrival:       Sunday, March 11, 2012
Departure:  Sunday, March 18, 2012
Number of team members coming: 50 (more or less divided evenly between women and men).

If you have an interest in housing, please contact me, Margaret Klineberg (see contact info below).  Being a host for such great young adults has been a wonderful experience, and I hope that many members of the Harvard community in Houston will participate this year.
